The five unsung heroes have been awarded with Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA).
Commending their contribution to the society, Dipak Prasad Koirala for Junar Kendriya Sahakari Sangh, Fulmaya Tamang for Bhattedanda Women Farmers Cooperative, Madhukar KC for Matribhumi Urja, Prem Bahadur Lama for Ashapuri Organic Farm and Suman Shakya for SmartPaani were awarded the third annual social entrepreneurship award.
Koirala was honoured for his collective effort to systematise and promote junar fruit and farming in Sindhuli district, whereas Tamang received the award for inspiring courage that led to social and economic change of women in need in her community in Kavrepalanchowk and encouraging the pursuit of education among children.
Likewise, KC bagged the award for his venture in Pyuthan and his tireless innovative efforts that has brought positive changes in health of many people apart from helping conserve the environment.
Lama was awarded for his commitment to healthy living and selfless promotion of commercial organic farming knowledge among farmers in Kavrepalanchowk district, whereas Shakya was commended for championing against overexploitation of water through a business set up in Lalitpur district and promoting eco-friendly methods to overcome ever increasing challenge of water shortage.
On the occasion, chief secretary Lila Mani Poudel awarded Dr Sanduk Ruit and his team of Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology with a special recognition for their remarkable contribution to advancements in the medical field, and providing life changing services to people from all strata of life.
The 10-member jury of Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award selected the five hidden heroes from among the 10 finalists.
Supported by Surya Nepal and organised by ChangeFusion Nepal, Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award helps identify, celebrate and inspire Nepali social entrepreneurs and change makers.
