Though three days late, the private sector today woke up to the challenge posed by the anti-poll parties – that have called general strike from Monday till November 20 to foil the Constituent Assembly (CA) election scheduled for November 19 – and organised a Peace Rally.
Private sector representatives and the public came together on the streets and asked the CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance to withdraw their strike that ha not only hurt the rights to economic freedom but also the children’s right to education.
The Peace rally started from Tundikhel in Kathmandu and went around Kaushaltaar in Bhaktapur before coming to an end at Lagankhel of Lalitpur district.
Appealing the bandh organisers, president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Suraj Vaidya asked them to respect the rights of the people. “Enough is enough,” he said, asking the general people to come to the street and defy the bandh. “We want the bandh to stop forever regardless of who is organising it.”
Two school children addressing the gathering also appealed to let them enjoy their right to education.
The 10-day strike entered third day today but the streets have started being crowded with vehicles despite some incidents to terrorise the people.
