Metropolitan Police Crime Division Kathmandu today arrested three traders on the charge of overcharging customers for tarpaulins.
During an inspection today, police found traders overcharging customers by as much as Rs 1,200 per tarpaulin, a press release from the division stated.
The division arrested Keshav Shrestha and Amit Shrestha of Kalimati after they were found selling tarpaulins costing Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,600 for Rs 3,700 and those costing Rs 100 and Rs 1,800 for Rs 2,500.
Likewise, the police also arrested Mohan Kumar Shrestha of Chabahil after he was found selling tarpaulin costing Rs 1,300 for as high as Rs 2,000 per piece.
According to the division, the unscrupulous traders had even offered bribe to plain-cloth policemen, who had reached their shops for inspection. The division also seized tarpaulins from these traders, the release said, adding that they will be charged according to the law.
