Nepal and China are planning to open Rasuwagadi route for international trade within the current year, most probably by this October.

The new route is expected to provide an alternative roadway for imports and exports of goods between the two neighbours as at present there is only one land route – Tatopani in Sindhupalchowk district – for the trade between the two countries.

Nepal and China are planning three more land routes including Rasuwagadi, Yari, Kimathanka and Lizi for bilateral trade, apart from construction of inland container depot (ICD) for international trade at Tatopani.

The opening of Rasuwagadi route will also ease traffic on Arniko Highway — the only surface route for trade between the two countries – as it has been more crowded and over exploited.

Rasuwagadi – where the government has already opened customs and quarantine offices – is also accessible from Galchhi in Dhading, Kakani or Tokha. The customs will also have an immigration office soon.
