India-Nepal People’s Friendly Cultural Forum of Kolkata has established ‘Nepal Bhawan’ is in Kolkata, the capital of the Indian State of West Bengal, at the initiative of the Nepali Welfare Trust.
The Forum’s Kolkata branch’s general secretary Raju Pathak said that the construction of a separate building was in response to the need for facilitating relief and rescue operation among the Nepalis in Kolkata at the time of disaster, accidents or difficulties.
“There has been no any such space in Kolkata where the Nepalis could take refuge at the time of difficulties,” Pathak said, adding that a fundraising Deusi Bhailo programme was also recently organised – among the Nepali community in Kolkata and surroundings during the Tihar festival – for the construction of the building in the land purchased by the Nepalis residing in Kolkata.
Trust coordinator Khimraj Baral said that they would also seek support from both the governments of Nepal and India.
