The death toll from landslides and flooding – due to torrential Monsoon rains in various villages of Kaski district – has climbed to 30.
Some 23 – including seven of a family – died while six others went missing at Majhgaun in Lumle-6, according to police.
Similarly, five persons were buried to death, when massive landslide swept away 10 houses at Bhadauretamagi-5, west of Phewa Lake, in the district, the police said, adding that the landslide claimed lives as people climbed to higher places after the flooded Harpankhola entered into the settlement. “Two other people died in Dhikarpokhari.”
The locals also informed that landslide also buried over a dozen houses in Chapakot and Bhadaure Tamagi village development committees, whereas a suspension bridge connecting Chapakot and Bhadaure has been swept by the swollen Harpan and Hadi Khola.
Police said the number of casualties may rise as more people might have been buried under the debris.
