The internet base has grown to 8.15 million in mid-February from 7.89 million in mid-January, according to Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
The internet penetration rate also went up to 30.70 per cent from 29.78 per cent a month earlier, it revealed adding that Nepal Telecom’s total internet base stood at 4.09 million, up from 3.97 million in mid-January. “The company’s dial-up base remained at 4,736 but its ADSL base grew to 119,285 from 119,111 a month earlier. Likewise, Nepal Telecom also served 3.82 million mobile internet subscribers, up from 3.70 million, and 136,573 EV-DO internet users, equal to a month ago.”
Nepal Telecom’s new Wimax service grew to 7,446 from 6,790 customers, it added.
Mobile operator Ncell served 3.86 million mobile internet users (GPRS, Edge, WCDMA) versus 3.73 million, and UTL’s EV-DO internet base stood at 99,265, unchanged from a month earlier.
Other ISPs served 98,213 internet customers through dial-up (10,197), wireless and fibre (63,107) and cable modem (24,909).
