China today announced a support of Rs 15.5 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai handed over the assistance – on behalf of Chinese autonomous region of Tibet – today to foreign minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey at the Foreign Ministry. Nepal has called for assistance from both northern and southern neighbours.

“China has been deeply saddened by the loss caused by flood and landslide at several parts of Nepal,” the Chinese envoy said, adding that Tibet wants to contribute to the relief fund set up by the government to help Nepalis people.

Due to landslide and flash flood, the transportation of goods along Araniko Highway – that connects Nepal with China – has been affected. The massive landslide in Mankha of Sindhupalchowk district earlier this month has swept away some section of the highway that is the only trading route with northern neighbor.

Chinese ambassador also committed to extend help in the re-construction of the highway.
