Tourism entrepreneurs today shut down Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card sales counter for Free Independent Tourists from the premises of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

The Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) has vowed that they would close the counter down from today, if the government doesnot address their demands. More than 100 tourism entrepreneurs padlocked the counter at around 7 today morning. However, the counter at TAAN secretariat Maligaun is open to make sure that foreign tourists are not affected by the closure of counter at the board premises. “We request foreign tourists to collect TIMS cards from TAAN´s counter,” coordinator of JTCC Ramesh Dhamala said.

The agitating entrepreneurs have been asking the government address their  four-point demand since a week.

Joint Tourism Coordination Committee – a forum of more than 20 travel trade associations – is leading the protest against the board.

Though, tourism minister Bhim Acharya asked the protesting entrepreneurs to call off strike and sit for talks, the agitators have intensified their protest.
