Nepal and the UK committed to explore future cooperation in climate change, global trade regime, promotion of Nepali trade and attracting more investment to Nepal.

The first meeting of Nepal-United Kingdom Consultative Mechanism also review the long standing bilateral relations between the two oldest friends.

The meeting that concluded here also decided to celebrate the bicentennial of the establishment of Nepal-UK diplomatic relations with various programmes like talks programme. Nepal and the United Kingdom had established formal relations in December 1815 after the Treaty of Sugauli. The treaty came into force in March 1816. The UK has been one of the development partners since then.
Acting foreign secretary Shankar Das Bairagi led the Nepali delegation while  director at the South Asia Division of Foreign and Commonwealth Office of United Kingdom Giles Thomson led British team in the one-day Nepal-United Kingdom Consultative Mechanism meeting.

Both sides also agreed to hold periodic meeting of the mechanism. The next meeting will be held in the UK.

The Nepal-United Kingdom Consultative Mechanism was set up in January aiming at enhancing friendly cooperation and exchanges between the two countries that share long-standing ties and bilateral relations.
