Mozilla announced the appointment of Chris Beard as its interim chief executive and a new member of the board of directors. At Mozilla since before Firefox 1.0, he was most recently chief managing officer of the company and previously worked as head of the Mozilla product, marketing and innovation teams. The company will continue to work on the appointment of a permanent chief executive as well as new board members.

Beard’s appointment follows the resignation of Brendan Eich barely a week after being named chief executive. He stepped down following opposition from staff, who did not appreciate his support for the ban on same-sex marriage proposed in California, where Mozilla is based.

Three board members also resigned at Eich’s appoinment, saying he was not the right man for the job.
