The government has decided to hike public transportation fare by almost seven per cent but only after Dashain festival.

During a meeting between Department of Transport Management and transport entrepreneurs today director general at the department Kashi Raj Dahal said that the government will jack up the transportation fare after festivities due to pressures from consumer rights activists and government.

The government will revise the fare upward from October 18, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers instructed the department not to increase public transportation fare before Dashain.
Secretary at the office Shanta Raj Subedi asked the entrepreneurs not to revise transportation fare upward before Dashain and Tihar.
The government believes that it is not the right time to hike the transportation fare as the country will see huge movement of the people during the festivals, he added.
